WorkSafeBC issues penalty and claims cost levy against Lakeland Mills

WorkSafeBC has issued orders including imposition of an administrative penalty and a claims cost levy against Lakeland Mills Ltd., located in Prince George.

Lakeland Mills Ltd. has been found to be in violation of the Workers Compensation Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation.

Two people were killed and more than 20 were injured in the incident.

The administrative penalty is $97,500 and the claims cost levy imposed is $626,663.28 for a combined total of $724,163.28 due.

On April 23, 2012 part of the Lakeland Mills sawmill at 1385 River Road in Prince George, B.C. exploded and the rest of the mill was consumed my fire and destroyed.
