The case of a Regina man accused of negligence in the death of an 18-year-old flagger has gone to trial. Saskatchewan RCMP charged 44-year-old Keith Dunford in the death of a traffic control person (TCP), who was hit by a vehicle and killed near Midale in August 2012.
Dunford is being charged under the criminal code with criminal negligence causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death. TCP Ashley Dawn Richards, 18, was struck by an SUV being driven by Dunford in a construction zone on Highway 39, about eight kilometres north of Midale, on Aug. 24. Richards, an employee of HJR Asphalt, was pregnant and on her first day on the job at the time of her death. She moved to Saskatchewan from Lakeside, N.B., to live with her fiancé Ben Diprose, who worked on the same crew and at the scene when she died.
