FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – A handful of Site C workers in B.C. are battling a gastrointestinal virus.
According to BC Hydro officials, the outbreak spread to 15 workers who are now off work and will not return until they are cleared by medical personnel.
The worker accommodation camp near Fort St. John has a dedicated medical clinic for medical issues. The environmental health officer for Northern Health has been notified about the illnesses and BC Hydro has also begun to update First Nations communities and local stakeholders on the situation.
To stop the virus from spreading, BC Hydro has begun control measures at the worker lodge and site, the company states. This includes notifying workers in the camp and onsite about the outbreak and promoting hand-washing and the importance of reporting illness.
Crews are doing "enhanced cleaning" of frequently touched surfaces. The medical clinic, the camp operator and contractors will continue daily monitoring of existing conditions and any new cases, BC Hydro states.
