Wally McNeil, a founder of LMS Reinforcing Steel Group, died Sept. 30 after a 16-month battle with lung cancer. He was 71.

“Wally will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all those whose lives he touched,” Independent Contractors and Businesses Association of B.C. president Philip Hochstein said in a statement.

McNeil managed Lafarge’s reinforcing steel division for 25 years before retiring as the company’s vice-president for Western Canada.

He came out of retirement to help his son Ron and business partner Ivan build LMS Reinforcing Steel into the largest independent reinforcing steel supplier and installer in Western Canada.

There will be a service held for McNeil on Thursday, Oct. 7 at Vancouver Golf Club at 12 p.m.

A reception will follow in the members’ dining room and lounge.
