Burnaby wins PIBC award

BURNABY—The City of Burnaby and Shape Properties Corp. have been awarded the Planning Institute of British Columbia’s (PIBC) 2016 Award for Excellence in Planning Practice — City and Urban Areas — GOLD for the Lougheed Town Centre Core Area Master Plan.

A reconceptualization of a suburban shopping district into a pedestrian and transit-connected mixed-use community, the plan includes diverse housing, employment, service and recreation opportunities.

The PIBC awards honour the best in professional planning work undertaken by members in communities and regions across British Columbia and the Yukon. Each award submission is evaluated by a committee of six experienced planners from across B.C.

The criteria includes, innovation, transferability, contribution to the profession, public process, implementation, sustainability and overall presentation.
