WETASKAWIN, ALTA. — The government of Alberta is investing $39.5 million over three years to build a new collections facility at the Reynolds-Alberta Museum in Wetaskiwin, Alta.
The current collections space at the museum has reached capacity and the new facility will create space for the museum’s collection of vintage transportation artifacts.
The project is currently in the initial planning phase, including determining the size of the facility and construction timelines. Construction is estimated to begin in the next 12 months and the museum will remain open to the public throughout the construction period, explains a release.
"This investment will allow the museum to continue its unique work and honours the legacy of Alberta visionary Stan Reynolds and many others in their commitment to preserve and share Alberta’s transportation history," Deputy Premier Sarah Hoffman said in a statement.
The museum currently contains more than 6,400 artifacts including vintage automobiles, trucks, motorcycles, aircraft, tractors and other agricultural and industrial equipment.
