CCA Virtually Unstoppable conference program covers variety of pertinent topics

OTTAWA — The Canadian Construction Association’s (CCA) annual conference coined Virtually Unstoppable will be held as an online event covering a variety of topics including contracting, mental health, climate change, infrastructure investment and an economic outlook.

The three-day conference will take place March 23 to 25 and feature business sessions and keynotes, networking opportunities and the CCA National Awards ceremony.

Canada’s Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion Carla Qualtrough will be participating in an exclusive one-on-one with CCA president Mary Van Buren covering the federal government’s response to the pandemic, Talent Fits Here, Canada’s evolving workforce in the face of COVID-19 and the challenges and opportunities.

This year’s keynote address on the first day of the conference will be delivered by General (Ret’d) Rick Hillier, who will focus on adaptive leadership in the “next new normal.” Other presentations on March 23 include a primer for winning federal government contracts; peer-to-peer national advisory councils for various sectors; and self-learning sessions.

On the second day, the program includes the future of infrastructure: how the pandemic has impacted our direction; legal issues to watch for in 2021; and Lean construction: how to do a Gemba walk, which will be presented in both English and French. It will also feature a CEO roundtable on the topic of re-imagining the future of the industry.

Furthermore, the top three CCA CONtact mentees will also pitch their solutions to industry experts and the CCA National Awards Celebration will take place.

Social events and networking have also been incorporated into the event, as well as a virtual trade show. In the evening of March 24 Dan Aykroyd will host a social session on how to make the perfect cocktail using Crystal Head Vodka.

Day three’s sessions include global connectedness: construction industry insights from around the world and a tete a tete with Van Buren on Canadian politics today.
