U.S. housing starts jumped in August
After falling by seven per cent in July, Madison’s Lumber Reporter reports that U.S. total housing starts for August 2021 increased by four per cent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.615 million. For August 2021, total residential starts in the U.S. jumped by 12.3 per cent from the same month one year ago, when it was 1.416 million.
CCGA announces international symposium
The Canadian Common Ground Alliance has announced details of the 2021 CCGA International Damage Prevention Symposium, to be held virtually Nov. 16 to 18. New this year will be programming on international damage prevention challenges.
Humo wins SCSA innovation challenge
Humo, a mobile platform and wearable device for improving worksite safety, has won the Saskatchewan Construction Safety Association (SCSA) and Innovation Saskatchewan’s inaugural Innovation Challenge. The challenge asked startups, entrepreneurs, researchers and students to show how technology could be used by construction to identify hazards and reduce injuries. Humo will receive funding of $10,000 and a 16-week residency to develop their solution in collaboration with SCSA and will show their solution at a demonstration day in early 2022.
