VICTORIA — British Columbia added nearly 10,000 jobs in October, according to Statistics Canada’s monthly labour report.

More than 17,000 jobs were added in the manufacturing and construction industries.

The goods-producing sector saw 18.7 per cent in growth from September to October while the services sector shrank by 8.9 per cent.

B.C. has the second lowest unemployment rate in the country at 4.2 per cent. Quebec is reporting a 4.1 per cent while the national rate is 5.2 per cent.

“The most heartening news is the progress we are making on women’s employment. Today, B.C. leads Canada in economic recovery for women with the highest women’s job recovery rate in the country,” said Minister of Jobs, Economic Recovery and Innovation Ravi Kahlon in a press release.

The unemployment rate for women over 25 is 3.4 per cent.
