VICTORIA — The Government of British Columbia and the Blueberry River First Nations are adjourning pending litigation until Oct. 15 thanks to productive negotiations.
The negotiations centre around Blueberry River First Nations concerns regarding the effects of resource development within their territory, including Treaty 8 rights such as hunting, fishing and trapping.
The provincial government and the First Nations have agreed to collaborate on land-use planning in the Fort St. John timber supply area, restoration initiatives, wildlife protection, such as moose monitoring, and committing to the development of new processes to create a more collaborative approach to resource development approvals.
The consultation and approval processes for forestry and oil and gas activity of interest to Blueberry River First Nations will continue along with discussions.
