Saskatchewan government warns consumers to beware door to door paving company

REGINA — The Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority of Saskatchewan (FCAA) is warning consumers to be on the lookout for a door-to-door paving company pitching its services.

Door-to-door salespeople and companies are required to be licensed in Saskatchewan under the Direct Sellers Act, and EM ROAD SEAL PAVING does not have that license, a statement reads.

The FCAA recommends consumers check the validity of a direct seller license number via FCAA411. The organization also recommends to “get everything in writing and create a formal contract with clear expectations of the work to be done and the time frame that the work has to be completed in.”

It also stresses to never hand over a blank cheque.

If contacted by EM ROAD SEAL PAVING or other unlicensed door-to-door salespeople offering driveway repair, the FCAA recommends contacting the Consumer Protection Division at consumerprotection@gov.sk.ca or by phone at 1-877-880-5550.
