New chair appointed to B.C. resource sector appeal agencies

VANCOUVER – The government of British Columbia announced Darrell Le Houillier has been appointed chair of the provincial Environmental Appeal Board, the Forest Appeals Commission and the the Oil and Gas Tribunal.

Le Houillier’s most recent role was as a member of the Civil Resolution Tribunal and has previously held positions in the Workers’ Compensation Appeal Tribunal and the Workers’ Advisers Office. He has a bachelor’s degree in geological (environmental) engineering from Queen’s University a bachelor of laws degree and certificate in natural resources and environmental law from the University of British Columbia. 

The three groups are independent quasi-judicial expert tribunals that hear appeals concerning allocation and management of publicly owned natural resources and matters of environmental protection. The Environmental Appeal Board hears appeals from government decisions related to the environment, while the forest Appeals Commissions does similar work regarding government decisions pertaining to forests and the environment. The Oil and Gas Appeal Tribunal considers appeals from decisions of the Oil and Gas Commission.
