Saskatchewan NDP promises to remove PST on construction labour, keep contracts local

REGINA — Saskatchewan NDP Leader Ryan Meili says he will keep jobs in the province if the New Democrats form government after the Oct. 26 election.

Meili’s campaign today took him to the $2-billion Regina Bypass which he says was built by an out-of-country company and saw millions in cost overruns.

He says the bypass contract went to a company from France, thereby denying jobs to local contactors and workers.

The Saskatchewan Party says the NDP is wrong and locals have worked on major infrastructure projects, including the bypass.

Meili also took aim at the government’s move to expand the six per cent provincial sales tax to construction labour.

He is promising to reverse the 2017 decision if the NDP is elected.
