EDMONTON – The City of Edmonton is marking what it calls “one of the most ambitious capital seasons in history” as it wraps up construction season on more than 300 projects.
During the 2022 construction season three neighbourhood renewal projects were completed renewing more than 100 kilometres of roadways along with four new and renewed park projects and seven trail renewals, a City of Edmonton release stated.
“As we near the close of a four-year, $7 billion capital program, we’re pleased to report that 92 per cent of these projects were on budget, and more than 70 per cent were completed on or ahead of schedule,” said City of Edmonton deputy city manager of integrated infrastructure services Adam Laughlin in a statement.
“We build with purpose to create places people want to be. At the same time, it’s important for us to maintain those spaces through the years. That’s why we put an emphasis on renewal in our capital budgets, so we can extend the life of elements in our city without having to spend a lot down the road to replace.”
The City of Edmonton also completed work on five supportive housing units providing 120 spaces. The release said progress was made on major transportation projects such as the Yellowhead Trail Freeway Conversion Program, the Terwillegar Drive Expansion and city bridges as well as LRT work.
Redevelopment of the Stadium LRT station is also nearing completion and two new platforms at the NAIT/Blatchford Market station and Blatchford Gate were completed, with solar panels set to be installed on the canopies later in the year.
The release stated while the majority of outdoor construction has wrapped up, indoor work, planning and design for upcoming projects and community engagement will continue to go forward.
