Snow puts Vancouver maintenance crews on standby

VANCOUVER – Lower Mainland maintenance crews and technicians are standing by to ensure the safety of British Columbia’s provincial highways and bridges as cold weather approaches the region.

Mixed rain and snow may result in accumulations of snow on the cables of the Alex Fraser and Port Mann bridges and outside lanes may be required to close to make room for work crews.

Cross-beams of the Alex Fraser Bridge will continue to be de-iced, a B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure release stated, and on the Port Mann Bridge snow and ice technicians are ready for snow-clearing activities. Tow trucks and ploughs will also be onsite at both bridges.

The ministry is advising travelers to check DriveBC for updates on possible delays.
