WAINWRIGHT, ALTA. — Through the Green Municipal Fund, the Government of Canada is providing $5.7 million for green infrastructure in the Town of Wainwright, which will go towards a series of wetland system measures to help the town better manage and treat stormwater being released into the environment.
A recent government announcement indicates the new infrastructure for the town will improve drainage and divert the majority of the stormwater to a new lagoon called the Gold Quarter Pond, which is being created in order to reduce the flow of stormwater into Bushy Head Lake.
The Green Municipal Fund is a $625-million program to support innovative solutions to environmental changes, outlines the news release. Projects funded under this program improve air, water and land quality, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and generate economic and social benefits for local communities.
