BC MINISTRY OF TRANSPORTATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE — Crews work to upgrade sanitation connections on Highway 1 in B.C. BC One Call is urging contractors and homeowners this month to call before they dig to prevent damage to vital underground infrastructure.

VANCOUVER — BC One Call is urging homeowners and contractors to pick up the phone and give them a ring before digging during Dig Safe Month.

BC One Call reminded residents that they can go online or call to determine if they might damage underground infrastructure by digging.

The hotline can inform people if telecommunication cables, electricity wires, natural gas lines, watermains and sewer lines are nearby.

BC One Call is endorsed by the B.C. Common Ground Alliance, a non-profit established to lead the development of consistent practices and co-ordination of activities to ensure the highest possible standards of worker safety, public safety and damage prevention in connection with underground infrastructure.

BC One Call’s upgraded call system went live in January. It also redesigned its website. BC One Call can be reached at 1-800-474-6886.
