Construction work resumes on Regina’s Victoria Avenue

Construction work resumes on Regina’s Victoria Avenue

REGINA — The City of Regina is beginning the second year of construction for its Victoria Avenue Infrastructure and Beautification Project.

Construction of the $6 million project resumed on April 19 and will focus on new work between Cornwall Street and Broad Street, as well as finishing work from the 2019 season between Albert Street to Cornwall Street.

The project includes contemporary paving, lighting and furnishings, new black powder coated traffic signal poles and enhanced street lighting, and a combined 80 new trees replanted in the boulevards and in Victoria Park.

Streetscape improvements with new boulevards and wider sidewalks on the north side and five intersection improvements with larger curbs are also planned.

The COVID-19 pandemic impacted construction plans and made a reassessment of construction plans necessary to determine which projects will proceed, a City of Regina release said.

“Victoria Avenue is an important road in our community and by properly maintaining this road now, we ensure it stays in good, safe condition for another 25 years,” the release stated.

The statement also noted the City of Regina is working closely with contractors and crews “to ensure pandemic protocols are in place so work can be carried out in a safe and timely fashion including physical distancing, handwashing, personal protective equipment and other precautionary measures.”
