DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — Work is complete on a bridge crossing near Dawson Creek, B.C.
The new Rolla Road bridge road realignment is expected to help the region maintain access during floods.
“This new bridge and road realignment will benefit local and commercial drivers,” said Claire Trevena, minister of transportation and infrastructure, in a statement. “This structure is built to withstand future floods and will serve as a good crossing for all types of vehicles.”
The new bridge replaced the old crossing with a more modern structure. It was built with a steel girder and concrete deck on Rolla Road No. 3 (Snakepit), just east of Dawson Creek. The area faced intense flooding in 2016.
The $25-million project benefits commercial drivers as it is built to accommodate overweight and over-dimensional transport loads.
The province has invested over $98 million on the extensive response and recovery work completed since June 2016, when flooding caused significant damage to roads and bridges throughout the Peace Region.
