NORTH VANCOUVER — Lafarge Canada Inc. has been awarded an $8.5 million construction contract to reconfigure the Dollarton Highway and Main Street interchange.
The work will reconfigure the eastbound Dollarton Highway and Main Street on-ramps to share the third lane of the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge using adaptive signalling, which accommodates changing traffic patterns by adjusting the timing of red, yellow and green lights.
The project also includes a new bus queue jump lane making it easier for buses to enter the highway from the Phibbs exchange.
Construction on this segment of the Lower Lynn improvement project is expected to begin in the coming weeks and be complete by fall 2021.
The project is a part of the British Columbia government’s Active Transportation Strategy which commits the government to ensuring new bridges and interchanges are designed to make walking, cycling and transit safe and convenient, a government release stated.
Funding for all four phases of the Lower Lynn project was provided by the province with $76.7 million; the Government of Canada with $55 million; the District of North Vancouver with $57 million; and $9.2 million of third-party funding for a total of $198 million.
