REGINA — A four-year roadway condition assessment contract has been awarded to Fugro, a Netherlands-based geotechnical data company, by the Government of Saskatchewan.
It is the second time a condition assessment contract has gone to the company.
Fugro will again be tasked with performing annual roadway condition assessments throughout the province. The information assists the ministry as it works to develop maintenance programs and lengthen road life.
Fugro’s first-year task order is already underway and involves 8,500 kilometres of road network with final deliverables scheduled for this October.
To deliver its condition assessment, Fugro will utilize its 3D Automatic Road Analyzer (ARAN) survey vehicle and iVision software. The ARAN acquires georeferenced road surface and right-of-way information at highway speeds using cameras, laser systems and other advanced sensors, while the web-based iVision platform delivers images and analyzed road data to ministry staff.
The system has already been used to deliver more than 50,000 kilometres of roadway condition assessments in the province.
“Successfully preserving Saskatchewan’s extensive network of pavements starts with collecting high quality pavement data,” said Nichole Andre, asset management engineer for the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure, in a statement. “Fugro’s data combined with their iVision viewing tool allows us to effectively strategize improvements, reduce time in the field, and optimize our preservation budget.”
