MISSION, B.C. — Students at École élémentaire des Deux-rives in Mission will be getting a new mass timber gymnasium.
The province has announced $6.9 million in funding directed to the Conseil scolaire francophone de la Colombie-Britannique for the project, a news release states.
The new gym will use mass timber for the roof and walls and light wood for the rest of the structure. The old gym at the school will be repurposed for learning opportunities and to accommodate more students.
“This additional space will allow students to continue their progress in a more spacious space better adapted to cultural and sporting activities,” said Marie-Pierre Lavoie, board chair of the Conseil, in the release.
The province has provided the Conseil with approval for more than $80 million to fund expansion projects in communities throughout B.C. since 2017.
