Province partners with YVR to produce ‘world’s greenest airport’

VANCOUVER — The Province of British Columbia will partner with the Vancouver airport (YVR) to help make it the “world’s greenest airport” as part of its new Integrated Marketplace Initiative.

The initiative will focus on supporting B.C. clean energy companies who are looking to develop and sell clean solutions locally, states a news release.

The initiative’s pilot project will be linking YVR with B.C. companies to “help electrify its operations and to meet its net-zero by 2030 commitment,” reads the release.

The government is spending $11.5 million to create a new marketplace to match B.C.’s clean-tech companies with industry buyers.

The airport will be focused on transitioning many of its ground-handling airfield vehicles from diesel to electric.

“We’re living through a technological revolution as the world is rapidly shifting. Our region needs to be bold and disruptive if we want to become a global leader,” said Frontier Collective CEO Dan Burgar in the release.

“Frontier Collective believes in projects like the Integrated Marketplace Initiative to unlock new opportunities of rapid innovation.”
