HUDSON BAY, SASK. — A Vancouver company has been fined $182,000 after an incident where a worker sustained serious injuries after being impacted by a forklift.
The incident occurred on Oct. 25, 2017 and Weyerhauser Company Limited was fined on June 23, 2020 after pleading guilty to one count under the Province of Saskatchewan’s occupational health and safety regulations on Nov. 26, 2019, in Hudson Bay Provincial Court.
The company pleaded guilty to clause 12 of the regulations which states the employer, “fail(ed) in the provision and maintenance of a plant, systems of work and working environments that ensure, as far as reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare at work of the employer’s workers, resulting in the injury of a worker.”
The company was fined $130,000 with a $52,000 surcharge.
