Energy Efficiency Training

Online training for the National Research Council of Canada’s National Energy Code for Buildings (NECB) 2017 is now available in English and French on the CSA Store. Furthering knowledge and adoption of the NECB 2017 contributes to the improved energy efficiency of new buildings and helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

NECB 2017 – Contractors | online, 4 hours

Tailored specifically for contractors and installers, this four-hour course helps to simplify selected requirements of the NECB 2017 in Division B, Parts 3-8.  It details systems, components and equipment covered by Parts 3-8 for energy performance efficiency. In addition, it clarifies the prescriptive path, trade-off path, and performance path requirements as requisite or permitted within NECB requirements.

NECB 2017 – Designers | online, 4 hours

This online course has been created for designers, modelers, engineers, and architects. Focused on specific requirements of the NECB 2017 in Division B, Parts 3-8, it details systems, components and equipment covered by Parts 3-8 for energy performance efficiency. In addition, it provides recommendations and top tips from design experts in the building energy efficiency sectors.

This 20-minute eLearning course outlines how the 2017 NECB is structured and provides an overview of the flow of the document.

NECB 2015/2017 Compliance Checklist for Designers – Full Checklist | video, 12 minutes

For building designers completing the NECB compliance checklist for submission to their Authority Having Jurisdiction. The full version of the NECB compliance checklist can be used for projects using the prescriptive, trade-off or performance compliance paths.

For building designers completing the NECB compliance checklist for submission to their Authority Having Jurisdiction. The abridged checklist is intended for projects that will satisfy the code requirements using only the prescriptive path. This checklist captures only the building elements which have a large impact on energy performance.

Health Care Facilities Training

Did you know many hospitals in Canada require CSA Infection Control during Construction training in order to be eligible to work on hospital construction and renovation projects? Don’t get caught without your certificate when it’s time to bid on a project. If you work on the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) within a hospital, fast track your understanding of the standards you need with CSA training.

Infection Control: Part 1: Fundamentals of Infection Control during Construction Renovation, and Maintenance of Health Care Facilities | virtual instructor-led

Available Dates: November 23-24, 2020, December 7-8, 2020 and new dates for January 2021!

This training is approved for Continuing Education Credits from the Canadian Construction Association (CCA) as part of the Gold Seal Certification Program. Led and created by industry experts from across health care facility management and academia. Our instructors are Gordon D. Burrill, Mike Hickey, George Pankiw, Gary Stairs and Jessica Fullerton.

Infection Control: Part 2: Effective Implementation & Practical Applications | virtual instructor-led (standard included)

This training is the second part of CSA Infection Control Training. On completion of both training parts, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion to include as part of a health care facility bid.

Indoor Air Quality – The Role of HVAC Systems in Health Care Facilities | virtual instructor-led

Available Dates: November 24-25, 2020 and new dates for January 2021

This training is intended for use by architects, engineers, planners, consultants, and health care facility staff to ensure the efficient planning, design, construction, and maintenance of HVAC systems. In addition to design and construction requirements, this Standard includes commissioning, operational, maintenance, and monitoring requirements for HVAC systems.

Environment and Natural Resources Training

ISO 14064-1:2018, Greenhouse Gas Inventories & Measuring Carbon Footprint | virtual instructor-led

Available Dates: November 16-17, 2020 (English) and February 22-23, 2021 (French)

This 8-hour course provides both an overview of the fundamentals of ISO 14064-1:2018 and the guidance at the organization level for quantification and reporting of organizational level greenhouse gas emissions and removals.

ISO 14064-2:2019, Greenhouse Gas Projects and Reducing Environmental Impact | virtual instructor-led

Available Dates: November 18-19, 2020 (English) and February 24-25, 2021 (French)

This 8-hour course provides an understanding of the fundamentals of greenhouse gas project quantification, monitoring and reporting concepts and techniques.

ISO 14064-3:2019, Greenhouse Gas Verification and Validation | virtual instructor-led

Available Dates: November 23-26, 2020 (English) and March 8-11, 2021 (French)

This 16-hour course will provide detailed training on the approach to using the ISO 14064-3 standard, with specific examples of how verification would be applied to a GHG inventory prepared according to the ISO 14064-1 standard, or a project that conforms with the ISO 14064-2 standard.

CSA-ISO 31000:2018 Risk Management for Climate Adaptation & Resilience | virtual, instructor-led training

Available Dates: February 22-23, 2021 (English)

In a blended learning format, this session includes an online self-guided ‘Introduction’ followed by an 8-hour, instructor-led ‘Implementation’ session. This course provides guidance on how to use CSA ISO 31000:2018 as a tool for conducting a full life cycle, resilience assessment for infrastructure projects. It provides a common approach to managing any type of risk and is not industry or sector specific.
