Second year of Vision Zero to provide funding for safer roads in B.C.

VICTORIA — Vision Zero grants are returning to provide increased funding to build safer roads across British Columbia.

The provincial government has approved a second year of Vision Zero grants. In it’s inaugural year, more than $500,000 in grants were awarded to communities and organizations working on road safety projects.

Funded projects included improved crosswalk infrastructure, traffic calming measures, speed-limit reduction pilot projects, speed-reader boards, improved lighting, road-safety planning and others.

According to the release, more than $1 million in grants has been distributed to 59 B.C. communities this year.

Road injuries and deaths result in more than $300 million in direct health care costs each year.
