KELOWNA, B.C. – Construction has started on the east tower of ONE Water Street, a 36-storey structure in Kelowna, B.C.
The building will be Kelowna’s tallest residential tower and connect via a three storey podium to the 29-storey west tower.

The fourth level is an elevated 1.3-acre landscaped park called The Bench with amenities for ONE Water Street residents.

The towers will also be the tallest structures between the Lower Mainland and Calgary.

“City council is committed to encouraging urban centre development that is energized by a concentration of new residents and businesses,” said Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran in a statement.

“One Water Street is the latest and biggest project to address our objective to have more densely developed urban centres, whether that’s downtown or in any of our other urbanized neighbourhoods.”

Kerkhoff Construction is building the towers and is handling development management along with North American Development Group.

A fundraising effort called Kick off the Count is running in tandem with construction through the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation, which is raising funds for JoeAnna’s House, a place for out-of-town families to stay while loved ones receive treatment at the hospital. The developers have committed to donating a dollar for every foot of pile used in the east tower’s foundation.

“We’re very impressed with JoeAnna’s House and the work they do, so when the piling’s done, we’ll count up how many feet of piles actually get used and we’ll be pleased to make the donation,” said Kerkhoff Construction vice-president Leonard Kerkhoff.
