$20 million slated for seniors housing

CALGARY, ALTA. — As part of its $1.2-billion commitment in the Provincial Affordable Housing Strategy, the Government of Alberta is investing $20 million in a new housing project for seniors.

The new Templemont housing development will be located on the former St. George’s Anglican Church site in the community of Temple. The facility, which is currently under design, will include a three-storey and a four-storey building with shared underground parking.

The development will provide 70 supportive housing units for people aged 55 and older who have trouble finding traditional housing, and 50 apartments for seniors with low income.

According to a release, with a total budget of $35 million, the project will also receive a $4.7-million contribution through the RESOLVE campaign.

The project is expected to be tendered for construction in the fall.
