Manitoba invests in Winnipeg’s St. James Civic Centre

WINNIPEG — The Province of Manitoba has committed approximately $3.9 million for the renewal and expansion of the St. James Civic Centre in Winnipeg.

The province and the city will be working in partnership to develop an agreement to outline the scope of work and schedules for design and construction of the project, said a release.
The project is expected to enhance space for programming for seniors, children and families by providing new and improved rooms, an auditorium for fitness programs and special events, a weight room, carpentry shop and a drop-in computer room.

“The St. James Civic Centre has been an important part of this community for more than 50 years,” said Manitoba Families Minister Scott Fielding in a statement.

Additional funding will be allocated to the project through the City of Winnipeg’s municipal funding infrastructure for 2018, he added. Winnipeg’s capital budget includes a total of $4.8 million for the project.
