REGINA, SASK. – Demolition work on Regina’s Wascana Pool has begun in preparation for a new pool.
Crews are expected to wrap up demolition and renewal preparation work at the end of the month if weather remains good.
Following the prep work, the city will ask residents for feedback to inform conceptual design options for a new pool facility. Over 4,000 Regina residents have responded to an initial online survey about the future of the site.
For over 70 years, Wascana Pool has been part of the summer experience in the park for Regina residents and families. The pool has reached the end of its useful life and the City is investing in a renewed facility.
The city’s budget has set aside $16.5 million in funding to design and replace Wascana and Maple Leaf pools; the first major investment in a new aquatic facility since Sandra Schmirler was built in 1990; almost 30 years ago.
The contract for the demolition work was awarded to Silverado Demolition for $150,000. The renewed Wascana Pool is expected to open in 2021.
