PCL develops PURE Portal cleaning module  

PCL Construction has announced a partnership with Sterilray to create PURE Portal, a sanitation solution utilizing UV technology to deactivate pathogens such as COVID-19 at an industrial scale. A PCL release describes the solution as “safe for human exposure, doesn’t damage exposed surfaces and works in just seconds.” It has been tested in a retail environment using shopping carts but is described as having multiple use cares including airport and medical carts.  

Federal government invites public input on Springbank Off-Stream Reservoir project 

The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada is conducting a federal environmental assessment of the proposed Springbank Off-Stream Reservoir project located approximately 15 kilometres west of Calgary, Alta. The agency is inviting the public and Indigenous groups to comment on the draft environmental assessment reportwhich includes the agency’s conclusions and recommendations regarding the potential environmental effects of the project and proposed key mitigation measures and follow-up programs. 

TC Energy selects Precision Pipeline for part of Keystone XL build 

TC Energy Corporation has awarded Wisconsin-based Precision Pipeline LLC a contract to help build the Keystone XL pipeline project in Montana and South Dakota. The company will be responsible for hiring an estimated 1,600 union workers over the two-year construction period, with an emphasis on local and Indigenous businesses.  

AGCA to release 2021 national forecast 

The U.S.-based Associated General Contractors of America and Sage will release its national and state construction hiring and business forecasts for 2021 during a virtual event on Thursday at noon EST. The forecast is based on a survey of construction firms nationwide and includes predictions on how demand for construction, the need to add new staff and whether firms will invest in new equipment and technology will be impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
