VANCOUVER — More British Columbians will be able to “fill up” their electric cars while driving Canada’s west coast, thanks to funding from the federal government for charge stations.
Officials announced more than $119,000 in funding to install 34 Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) chargers at six sites in Metro Vancouver.
This investment, which together with the contribution from Bosa Properties, brings the total cost of the project to more than $275,000, aims to encourage the adoption of zero-emission vehicles by providing residents with more charging options.
Federal funding is provided through Natural Resources Canada’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program. Canada is working to have all new passenger vehicles sold in in the country to be zero-emission vehicles by 2040. To achieve this, the government has invested over $600 million to lower the cost of EVs and build out charging infrastructure.
“We are giving Canadians the greener options they want to get to where they need to go,” said Seamus O’Regan Jr., Canada’s minister of natural resources, in a statement. “This is how we get to net zero by 2050.”
