Construction closes Trans Canada Highway east of Golden, B.C., for a month
B.C. MINISTRY OF TRANSPORTATION - Construction has closed the Trans Canada Highway east of Golden, B.C. for the next month as part of a project to widen and realign the highway.

GOLDEN, B.C. – Drivers on the Trans-Canada Highway will need to take another route into and out of eastern British Columbia for the next month.

Highway 1 through the Kicking Horse Canyon, east of Golden, B.C., was to close Tuesday until May 20.

The closure is part of a project to widen and realign the major highway.

B.C. Transportation says work will go on 24 hours a day and cannot be done safely with vehicles going through.

Traffic in both directions will be routed to highways 93S and 95, adding about 90 minutes of travel time.

Drivers heading west will still be able to get as far as Lake Louise, Alta., and Field, B.C., on the Trans-Canada.
