VICTORIA — Construction of the Kimta E&N Cycling Connector in Victoria, B.C. has begun.
Building started on Sept. 12 of the route which will feature new multi-use pathways, protected bike lanes, crosswalks, accessibility upgrades landscaping and lighting.
Once complete, the route will be a continuous connection from the E&N Regional Trail and the downtown core.
B.C. Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Rob Fleming announced funding for the project through the provincial government’s 2021/2022 Active Transportation Infrastructure Grants Program.
The City of Victoria is leading the Kimta E&N Connector project in collaboration with the CRD who will operate the regional trail network. Sparker Construction is the prime contractor for the project and construction is expected to be complete in six months, a City of Victoria release stated.
The project is primarily funded through the Canada Community-Building Fund and Provincial Active Transportation Infrastructure Grant.
