$57.5 million long-term care facility coming to Comox

COMOX, B.C. — A new long-term and dementia care facility is being built in the Town of Comox.

Through BC Housing, the province is providing $57.5 million for construction of the 156-bed project, according to a news release.

The home, which will be called the Providence Living Place, Together by the Sea, will be located at 2137 Comox Ave. It will be built on the current site of The Views long-term care home which once housed St. Joseph’s General Hospital.

Island Health and the Providence Living Society will be partnering with B.C. on the project.

Once finished, the project will consist of small self-contained households with 12 private rooms, each room will have a private bathroom and care staff will be dedicated to each building.

Construction began in March 2022.

“Providence Living is bringing to life its new vision of long-term care in Comox that will enable seniors to live meaningful lives with freedom of movement, access to nature, interaction with the community and intergenerational connections,” said Mark Blandford, interim chief executive of Providence Living Society, in the release.
