Regina issues tender for Scarth Street design consultant

REGINA — The City of Regina has issued a tender for a consultant to develop a preliminary design for the revitalization of Scarth Street Mall located in the city centre.

The project is expected to cost approximately $4.75 million and “will consider features such as landscaping, lighting, accessibility, pedestrian safety, flexibility for events, potential changes to traffic access as well as business needs,” a City of Regina release stated.

Pending timing and the outcome of the consultant’s design and community interactions, the release said, construction on Scarth Street could begin in 2024, aligning with phasing of the 11th Ave revitalization project set to begin in 2023.

Co-ordination of the two projects will be prioritized to help alleviate impacts to residents and businesses.

The tender will close in mid-January 2023. Scarth Street was last revitalized in 1975.
