REGINA — The City of Regina will be able to build 25 new affordable housing units after receiving funding from the Government of Canada’s Rapid Housing Initiative (RHI).
Through the initiative, the city has received $6.6 million.
“Addressing housing insecurity requires a collaborative effort from all levels of government and the non-profit sector. Developing new housing will improve our residents’ safety and well-being and increase community vibrancy,” said Regina Mayor Sandra Masters in the release.
The current round of federal funding through the RHI is $1.5 billion and is expected to produce 4,500 affordable homes across the country for Canada’s most vulnerable people.
This is on top of the $2.5 billion already invested by the federal government in the program, which is expected to produce 10,000 affordable homes, 2,500 more than originally anticipated, states the release.
