OTTAWA — There’s a gold rush coming to Lynn Lake.
The Government of Canada has announced its approval for the Lynn Lake Gold Project in Manitoba, after environmental mitigation measures were deemed sufficient.
The project will see Alamos Gold Inc. build a new open-pit gold mine and metal mill located near the Town of Lynn Lake, 1,000 kilometres north of Winnipeg.
The mine is expected to operate for 12 years and create up to 406 jobs during construction and 412 during operation, according to a news release.
The decision statement issued by Minister of Environment and Climate Change Steven Guilbeault contains 177 conditions the proponent must comply with to ensure environmental protection.
