Enbridge’s Line 3 replacement project receives MPCA approvals and DNR permits

Calgary-based Enbridge’s Line 3 replacement project has received approvals from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency including water quality certification, and the final eight permits for the project have been released by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. The next step in the process is a determination from the US Army Corps of Engineers regarding federal permits. The authorizations and permits approved by the Minnesota DNR range from a license for utility crossing of state land and public water, to water appropriation for dust control, hydrostatic testing and horizontal directional drilling. The project still needs final permits and authorizations before construction can begin.  

TC Energy and Natural Law Energy sign Keystone investment agreement

TC Energy Corporation and Natural Law Energy (NLE) announced they have signed an agreement allowing NLE to invest up to $1 billion in the Keystone XL project. The first phase of the transaction is expected to close in third quarter of 2021 contingent on NLE securing financing.

Saskatoon City Council chambers get an upgrade

Saskatoon City Council’s chambers will be upgrading over the fall to improve the functionality and accessibility of the public space. Improvements will include changes to room configuration to improve accessibility and enable distancing, HVAC system upgrades to improve heating, cooling and air filtration, new paint, carpeting and gallery seating, and space for media. Funding for Chamber renovations was allocated by the city’s Comprehensive Building Maintenance Reserve.

General Fusion commissions AL_A architecture firm for Fusion Demonstration Plant

Vancouver-based General Fusion has partnered with architecture firm AL_A to assist in the design of a Fusion Demonstration Plant (FDP), a building intended to showcase the potential of fusion energy. Once operational, the FDP will demonstrate magnetized target fusion technology under power plant-relevant conditions. Architect and AL_A founder Amanda Levete will lead the design of the facility.
