ASTORIA, N.Y. — New York-based Iron Workers are hosting an opportunity for guests to experience a day in the life of an ironworker today as part of Steel Day.
The event is being presented by the Iron Workers Local 40 and 361 Training Center in partnership with the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC). Participants will be able to try their hands at welding, flame-cutting, rigging a beam and climbing a column among other activities.
Steel Day is the annual celebration of the structural steel industry, sponsored by the AISC and hosted by its members and partners. This year’s event marks the AISC’s 100th anniversary.
The Iron Workers Local 40 and 361 Training Center is located in Astoria, N.W.
There will be similar events in Boston and Portland this week.
This educational program describes the daily work of what a Ironworkers does on the job. It’s a good experience for the guests to take part in a task done by ironworkers by doing one of them. Excellent program.
