This week on the Construction Record podcast digital media editor Warren Frey speaks with Forest Products Association of Canada president and CEO Derek Nighbor about sustainable forestry and biofuels.
Nighbor explained how wood residuals produced through the milling process can lead to increased safety as waste is reduced but also moves these residuals into the “circular economy”, a more sustainable model where resources and products are recycled rather than becoming disposable.
He also said forestry can become more resilient in the face of climate change and natural disasters by properly managing forests through prescribed burns, thinning where needed and other methods. Nighbor also explained how COVID-19 and supply chain issues have affected the industry.
