The Construction Record – Episode 182: Charles Ormsby and Sean Meadows of Arup

This week on the Construction Record Podcast digital media editor Warren Frey speaks with Arup sustainability and climate services leader Charles Ormsby and principal of infrastructure Sean Meadows about the company’s Canadian operations and how it addresses sustainability at an infrastructure level.

Ormsby and Meadows detailed how the company is working on infrastructure projects across Canada with a focus on fully integrated solutions for transit, health services and water-based energy generation. Ormsby pointed out that the vast majority of Canada’s population resides in cities meaning urban systems have to be sustainable, reliable and resilient in a way that promotes equity and environmental stewardship.

Digital resiliency was also mentioned as a term that will become more important as industry moves into virtual space. In order to do so, Meadows said, data has to be reliable, accessible and sustainable, especially given the accelerating rate of connectivity on a global level.
