The Construction Record Podcast: Episode 156 – Alex Carrick’s 2022 Outlook

Daily Commercial News Image Daily Commercial News

This week on the Construction Record podcast digital media editor Warren Frey speaks with ConstructConnect chief economist Alex Carrick about where Canada and the global economy are headed in 2022.

Carrick sees the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to be the most influential force on the economy, but other factors such as interest rates and shifting demand for commodities and oil and gas may influence where Canada’s economy  moves in the next year.

He also noted for the first time the Canadian housing market, long an indicator of economic activity, has seen more activity in areas outside Toronto than in the GTA. Office buildings and other commercial properties also face an uncertain future as COVID-19 upends conventional trends.

You can listen to The Construction Record and TCR Express on the Daily Commercial News and Journal of Commerce websites as well as on Apple PodcastsSpotify and Amazon Music’s podcast, and you can listen to last week’s podcast featuring BIMOne’s Scott Chatterton discussing BIM and wood construction here. Thanks for listening and we’ll see you next week.
