On this episode of The Construction Record Podcast, digital media editor Warren Frey speaks with Craig Mitchell, the founder and principal of Blackbox Offsite Solutions Ltd., about his recent Buildex Vancouver presentation on prefabrication in Canada.
Mitchell said while the public is aware of the role of wood construction in prefabricated structures, the industry has matured into mass timber, panelization and volumetric modular construction, and that these practices can help address a growing labour shortage.
He added prefabricated structures also help address decarbonization by not only using sustainable materials but reducing the amount of necessary movement for people and materials, and added Canada could help address a continued housing crisis with more prefabricated structures.
