TORONTO — A fire occurred at a condominium development under construction in Toronto this morning (Dec. 4).

The Toronto Fire Department and Toronto Police responded to the three-alarm blaze at the site, located a College and Spadina Streets, the former location of the Waverly Hotel near Kensington Market. The fire broke out just after 7 a.m.

“What we observed is heavy fire in one of the top units resulted in burning materials dropping down onto the roof below which ignited a secondary fire so crews were contending with two fires at the same time,” Acting Fire Chief Jim Jessop said at the scene.

Fire crews took the stairs to access the fire. The Toronto Fire Investigation Division is investigating the origin, cause and circumstances surrounding the blaze.

Spadina Avenue was closed in both directions. No injuries were reported.
