OSHAWA, ONT. — The Ontario government has announced it is building a new Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) Hub in Oshawa.
This new hub is the second HART Hub that will open in Durham Region and is part of the province’s plan to support safer communities by investing almost $550 million to create a total of 28 HART Hubs across the province, explains a release.
This coincides with also banning drug injection sites from operating near schools and licensed child-care centres.
Planning of the new HART Hub in Oshawa is underway and, once open, its services could include:
- Primary care
- Mental health and addiction services, including addictions treatment
- Mental health and addictions supportive housing
- Social services and employment supports.
“I am committed to ensuring that individuals in need receive the compassionate, recovery-focused care they deserve,” said Dan Carter, mayor of the City of Oshawa, in a statement. “The HART Hub in Oshawa will provide comprehensive wraparound services and support for those struggling with addiction, creating pathways for their long-term recovery.”
A location, cost and design were not disclosed in the Ontario government news release.
