Ontario breaks ground on long-term care homes in Sudbury, Parry Sound

SUDBURY, ONT. — Construction is underway to add 32 beds at Hoivakoti Finlandia Nursing Home in Sudbury along with an expansion project that will add 22 beds at Belvedere Heights, a long-term care home in Parry Sound.

At the Sudbury location the beds will complement the existing 112 beds currently at the home, and stem from an investment from the Construction Funding Subsidy top-up, explains a release.

The home is expected to welcome its additional residents in fall 2026.

The new section will feature 32 private rooms. The expansion’s lower level, covering approximately 3,000 square feet, will serve as an onsite training facility for staff and placement students from local colleges and universities, the release adds. Other amenities at the home include a fitness centre, physiotherapy centre and beauty salon.

In Parry Sound the news beds will be in addition to the existing 101 beds currently at the home.

Belvedere Heights has a “purposeful living” approach, the release continues, and designs its environment with small, intimate seating areas that encourage social interaction. The home follows the Eden Alternative Model of Care, which focuses on enhancing resident and community engagement.

The expansion is expected to be complete in winter 2027.
