DAY TWO CONEXPO-CON/AGG NOTEBOOK: Opioids, harassment and construction

LAS VEGAS, NEV.

SESSION: Opioids in Construction

PRESENTERS: Missouri Works Initiative’s John Gaal and Holmes Murphy and Associates’ Cal Beyer

THEY SAY: John Gaal: “Most doctors have a standing prescription ready for you, all you have to do is make your case for it. But they’re not going to give you 30 days when only three days are being used and 27 days are being diverted out into the market.”

Cal Beyer: “Harm reduction alone is not enough. It has to be a combination. We need to take care of those individuals in recovery and active addiction, but we need to stop the next wave.”

SESSION: Be That One Guy

PRESENTER: Ironworkers International director of diversity Vicki O’Leary

SHE SAYS: “It’s more verbal and microaggressions…when you are dealing with them day after day after day. It may not be the last thing they said that is the straw that broke the camel’s back, but it has been those micro-inequities over time that get your mind blown.”
