Emergency department upgrades announced for Orangeville, Kawartha Lakes

ORANGEVILLE, ONT. — The Ontario government made several announcements recently, highlighting two projects that are meant to improve health care in the areas of Orangeville and Kawartha Lakes.

In Orangeville, the emergency and diagnostic imaging departments at Headwaters Health Care Centre will be renovated and expanded.

The project also includes the relocation of the hospital’s laboratory from the main floor to the lower level, ensuring additional space is created for the hospital to expand its emergency and diagnostic imaging departments.

The next step is to complete early planning and design for this project. A construction schedule will be confirmed once future planning is complete and the project is tendered and awarded, a release reads.

The Ontario government also announced it is renovating and expanding the emergency department at Ross Memorial Hospital in Kawartha Lakes, which will also lead to the creation of a new mental health emergency services unit.

The expansion will include a new trauma room with improved infection control measures to provide emergency department staff with additional space to treat patients requiring urgent lifesaving care.

This project will also now move to the early planning and design phase with a construction schedule announced at a later date.
