LABOUR DEVELOPMENT: UA Local 46 highrise residential plumbers on strike

TORONTO – As of 12:01 a.m. this morning members of the United Association Local 46 High Rise Residential Plumbers are on strike.

According to a message posted on social media, the union states despite multiple rounds of bargaining, even the latest session on May 12, no offer was presented that could be brought back to members for ratification.

The union notice also states members voted 96 per cent in favour of a strike mandate previously and rejected the contractor’s offer by 92 per cent.

Key issues include wage increases and benefits, travel expenses and tools.

“Our members deserve fair wages, reasonable travel terms, and respect for their tools and trade,” said Dave Griffiths, business manager of UA Local 46, in a statement. “We remain committed to reaching a fair agreement, but we cannot accept terms that undermine our members’ livelihoods.”

Members were advised to report to their jobsites, gather their personal tools and vacate the premises.

More to come…
